Thane Liffick is a Managing Director in Slalom Consulting’s Seattle office focusing on telecom and healthcare. With over 10 years consulting experience at Slalom, Thane is helping to grow the firm’s team of consultants and drive new areas of growth.

When I started at Slalom Consulting (then Two Degrees Consulting), we had one primary client and 16 consultants. What an energizing ride it has been to help build an award winning practice of 360+ consultants in Seattle (and over 1800 nationwide)!

Why did I take a gamble on a small consulting firm that no one had heard of? It was the founding leaders’ vision to build a better consulting firm, one that truly put our clients’ needs first with local, top talent at the center of our model. Why do I stay? We are authentic to our original vision which positively impacts clients’ and consultant lives. In the cold world of business, clients and consultants want to have meaningful relationships and partnerships that transcend work. And, a decade later, we hold true to our original vision.

There are many talent challenges facing organizations today, like retention, engagement, and knowledge transfer. Nicola Russell is the Director of Slalom’s Talent Management group, which exists to develop and grow Slalom employees via innovative learning, career, and leadership development solutions. She is based in Seattle.

Our company’s success rests on our consultants’ knowledge, skills, and abilities, and our leaders believe strongly that our people are our greatest asset. Nurturing that talent is the driving purpose of Slalom’s talent strategy; in all we do, we strive to enable our consultants to grow professionally and provide ever greater value and service to our clients. To that end, Slalom recently formed a Talent Management team to focus on employee development, including talent selection, learning, career development, leadership, and performance management.

We just found out that for the second year in a row Slalom ranked in the top 10 in Glassdoor.com’s Employees’ Choice Awards of Best Places to Work in the United States–this time we are #8.

The rankings are based on Glassdoor.com’s unedited, anonymous employee and former employee reviews focusing on work/life balance, career opportunities, communication, compensation and benefits, fairness and respect, employee morale, recognition and feedback, and senior leadership.

Slalom’s values have always been about creating a winning environment where our employees feel professionally and personally fulfilled, while delivering the best results for our clients. In less than ten years, we’ve grown to more than 950 consultants, established a nationwide presence and have managed to maintain these values through that growth.
